Girl, 6, left sick after being given amphetamine by another child
A young girl had to spend a night in hospital after being handed a mysterious pill by another child.
Samantha Green, six, was playing out in the streets of Church, Lancashire, when a girl of a similar age handed her a pill on Sunday.
Soon after swallowing the pill she became drowsy and very sleepy so her mum Stephanie took her to hospital.
The pill turned out to be amphetamine and Samantha was kept in hospital overnight after the drug was flushed out of her system.
Mum Stephanie said: ‘Around 4pm my daughter’s friend came and told me my daughter had taken a tablet. When I asked my daughter about it she became very sleepy and drowsy.
‘I called an ambulance and it took her to hospital. Once there they said it was Dextroamphetamine.
‘She was kept in over night and monitored. She’s home now and fine after her stats dropped all night.’
Samantha has now returned home after hospital and is said to be doing fine.
Stephanie continued: ‘It was a horrible incident.’
Dextroamphetamine is a central nervous system stimulant and amphetamine that is prescribed for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and narcolepsy.
It is also used as an athletic performance and cognitive enhancer, and recreationally as an aphrodisiac and euphoriant.
Police are investigating.
