Girl, 6, dials 999 telling them to 'take her mummy to jail' after play-fight
A six-year-old girl decided to get her own back after being bested by her mum while play-fighting, by dialling 999 and telling the operator to ‘take her to mummy jail’.
Vicky Pitchford, 29, from Bentilee in Staffordshire, taught six-year-old Ruby how to call the emergency services in case she ever has a panic attack and is unable to do so herself.
She said the two of them had been mucking around at home and described playfully yanking the youngster towards her as she tried to crawl away.
But that joy soon turned to disbelief – and eventually hilarity – when Ruby came to find her upstairs a short time later clutching the phone in her hand.
Vicky said: ‘Ruby walked in and said the police were on the phone. I was like “whatever” because I didn’t believe her.
‘She put the phone on loudspeaker and I heard a man say “hello” so I took the phone off her and saw that she had actually dialled 999.
‘I spoke to the male copper and he said “your daughter told us to take you to mummy jail because you grabbed her foot”.
‘I couldn’t believe it when I heard the voice on the other end of the phone – and Ruby was running around the room laughing.’
She added: ‘The operator was laughing down the phone. We were hysterical and I was laughing for a long time.
‘I have a lot of panic attacks so I have taught her to dial 999 because sometimes there are times when I can’t breathe so she may have to call them but this time she took it to her own advantage.
‘In a way I am proud that she has remembered how to dial the number, although it’s a bit silly.
‘If I ever need help she is there and able to get that help for me and that is why she has got her own phone as well.
‘When we came off the phone to the police I had a word with her that she has got to take the number seriously because it is for emergencies only.’
