Girl, 2, asks 'why has mummy left me' after she was killed by BMW driver

A drug dealer has been described as ‘selfish, inhumane and irresponsible’ after killing a mother while trying to take his own life.

Jordan Howlett, 24, was high on crack cocaine after a party at a house in Leeds.

He became suicidal as a result of the drugs he was on and drove deliberately towards a Kia being driven by Kate Jaworski-Green, 33.

Her father Paul revealed that ever since the crash her daughter, Lydia, who was two at the time, keeps asking why her mother has left her.

He said: ‘The loss of Lydia’s mummy is heartbreaking. We can see her thinking “how come my mummy has left me?”

‘Lydia said that when mummy has her car fixed she can come home. It appears that Lydia thinks that one day mummy will come home.’

Kate had been on her way to work at 6am on January 27, 2018, when the crash happened with an impact estimated at 80mph.

Howlett had been at a party and drank a bottle of spirits but when he ran out of crack he became aggressive and talked about killing himself.

While driving he lost a wheel but continued for another 20 miles, sparks flying from the car.

He phoned a friend from behind the wheel, telling them that he had crashed twice and wanted to ‘crash properly.’

Prosecutor Richard Wright told Leeds Crown Court: ‘Kate would not have had any idea, in the dark, that a car was in her lane, not until the moment of impact.’

Following the collision Howlett disposed of drugs from his car while firefighters cut Kate free.

Her father said he struggled with the decision to turn off life support and Kate’s husband has never come to terms with his loss.

Today would have been their sixth wedding anniversary and Paul added his daughter’s death was the ‘cruellest thing that can happen in life.’

Mr Justice Butcher jailed Howlett for nearly 11 years yesterday.

He said: ‘This is a terrible case of wasted life. You deliberately drove your car into a headlong collision with that of a complete stranger to you. You were intending to kill yourself. You killed her.

‘She was innocently driving her Kia when you drove straight into her. She sustained appalling injuries and tragically died on January 29.’

He was also banned from driving for four years and will have to take an extended driving test.
