Girl, 16, arrested after three loaded guns and 200 bullets seized in raid

A teenage girl and a 38-year-old man have been arrested after police found three loaded guns and two hundred rounds of ammunition.

Officers raided a home in Willesden, north west London on Thursday and found multiple dangerous weapons.

The man and teenager were arrested on suspicion of several firearm offences and both are still in police custody.

This is just the most recent weapons seizure in the capital, after the Met uncovered another three firearms, ammunition and drugs in Chigwell, east London.

Before that, police found a shotgun, ammunition and four knives in Harlesden, also in North West London – just next to Willesden.

Detective Chief Inspector Rick Sewart said: ‘This seizure of three loaded and dangerous firearms, the latest in a string of successes, reflects the dedication of officers across the Met to tackling gun crime.

‘The Met remains committed in its fight against violence, removing offensive weapons from our streets, bearing down on those involved and bringing them to justice.’

Illegal weapons in the city have been increasing over the last few years, figures show.

The Met seized 450 firearms in the financial year 2020/2021. Comparatively, 366 firearms were found in 2019/2020.

In the first three months of this financial year (2021/2022), 98 firearms have been confiscated.

This is slightly more than the 92 firearms discovered in the first three months of the previous financial year.

DCI Sewart added: ‘The Met continues to put pressure on those carrying dangerous weapons and dismantling gangs and organised criminal networks.

‘We know that we are most effective when we police with the support of the public, working together to tackle those causing the most harm.’
