The man, who was in his 40s, was rushed to A&E after reportedly becoming squashed against a wall by a reversing lorry in the loading area. It’s believed the HGV moved backwards as the employee was holding the side curtains of it open.
The man died at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, Devon, and the tragedy has rocked his colleagues.
One pal, who reportedly witnessed the horror unfold on Thursday December 2, told Cornwall Live: “We lost our friend, but no-one’s saying nothing about this dramatic accident.
“[The man] was a fantastic person. He always willing to help others. He was living with his mum at Bude and now she’s been left with this situation.”
Police are investigating the accident and it has also been referred to the government’s Health and Safety Executive.
A Devon and Cornwall Police officer said: “Just after 7am on Thursday 2 December, police were contacted by the air ambulance following an incident at the Ginsters Factory on Granite Way, Callington, involving an employee and a HGV lorry.
“A man in his 40s sustained serious injuries and was later declared deceased at Derriford Hospital.
“This matter has been referred to the Health and Safety Executive to consider any health and safety issues and working practices; this death isn’t being treated as suspicious and a file has been prepared for the coroner.”
Ginsters and the Health and Safety Executive have been approached for comment regarding the incident and claims about conditions at the factory which have been raised by the worker.
