Gina Miller fears Boris Johnson plot will ensure WTO Brexit with no deal from EU
Earlier this week, the Prime Minister threatened to walk away from Brexit trade talks with the EU if negotiations have not progressed by June. Mr Johnson will now prepare for a hard exit on World Trade Organisation (WTO) terms. Ms Miller shared her fears on Twitter that the Government were “orchestrating” no “real deal” with the EU on purpose.
The business owner and activist’s comments were in response to a tweet from BBC Newsnight’s policy editor Lewis Goodall.
Mr Goodall wrote on Twitter he felt it was “hard not to conclude that there’s a very strong chance we’re leaving without a trade deal in December”.
Ms Miller replied: “Anyone surprised? HMG are clearly orchestrating a WTO exit and no real deal with EU.
“I’d like to point out that as far as I’m aware, there’s only one country that just operates under WTO with no other FTAs – Mauritania, although gets preferential treatment from some countries in EU.”
Ms Miller’s remarks were met with waves of backlash from angry Twitter users.
One Twitter user posted: “Truly wonderful that democracy is back in Parliament, and we have a Government enacting the will of the majority.”

Another Twitter user replied: “What’s more exciting, is you can’t do anything about it!”
David Tooze added: “In any case Gina, the decisions the Government takes do not need your permission or anyone else’s.”
Vincent Fondacaro posted: “Not much you can do now Gina, power to the people!”

Mr Johnson presented Britain’s mandate for trade talks with the EU to parliament on Thursday.
He claimed he wants to avoid the prospect of Brussels running down the clock in talks ahead of the December 31 deadline for a deal.
His mandate outlined if good progress had not been made before a summit in June between the EU and the UK, then Britain would instead shift focus and prepare to leave on WTO terms.
The new terms would also include new tariffs and quotas on trade.
The mandate said: “The government will need to decide whether the UK’s attention should move away from negotiations and focus solely on continuing domestic preparations to exit the transition period in an orderly fashion.”
Many Twitter users told Ms Miller they felt this was a “strong negotiating” position.
One Twitter user told her: “After four years of being yanked around the park, we are walking away in June if the EU continues to behave unreasonably.”
Freda Jones said: “How many years and you still don’t seem to understand that unless you are prepared to walk away you can never get a decent deal and if there is no decent deal on offer, you simply have to walk away.”
Another Twitter user wrote: “Hey Gina, there is a whole world outside the EU you know.”
