Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six, and Prince Louis, three, are enjoying their summer holidays at Anmer Hall in Norfolk. During the pandemic Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, 39, and Prince William, 39, took their children on several staycations and are expected to travel to Scotland to see the Queen later this summer.
While the Cambridge family usually holidays abroad the Covid-19 crisis means they have stayed closer to home since the start of the pandemic.
Last year they were spotted on the Isles of Scilly off the coast of Cornwall enjoying bike rides with their little ones.
They also travelled to see the Queen and Prince Philip at Balmoral Castle in the Scottish Highlands last August and are likely to make the trip again this year.
The Queen arrived at Balmoral last Friday and this year’s trip will be poignant for her as it is the first holiday she has taken since the death of her beloved husband the Duke of Edinburgh in April.
The Queen usually stays in the Highlands from August until October but journeyed up to Aberdeenshire earlier this year.
While she may have spent her first weekend in Scotland alone, the Queen usually invites family members, including the Cambridges, to stay with her there during her break.
Balmoral is said to be where the Queen feels truly at home as it is one of the few places she can completely relax outside the royal bubble.
Last year George, Charlotte Louis and their parents were reported to have joined the Queen over the August bank holiday weekend but could make the journey any day.
The Sun reported at the time that the socially distanced meeting was the first time the Queen had got to see her great-grandchildren since the start of the pandemic.
Last summer an insider said William and Kate were “over the moon” to make the reunion and wanted to show their support after a “difficult year”.
This year has also been extremely hard for the Queen as not only has she lost her beloved husband but she has also had to steer the monarchy through a fresh wave of royal dramas.
Prince Harry, 36, and Meghan Markle’s, 39, bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey shook the Firm to its core in March and prompted the Queen to issue a measured statement in response to damaging accusations made by the couple.

In her statement, the Queen said issues raised in the interview would be dealt with in private but Harry has since gone on to speak about family issues in public again.
News that Harry is to publish a tell-all memoir about his life as a royal next year has prompted speculation he and Meghan could be uninvited to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Next year the Queen will mark 70 years on the throne and there will be events across the nation to celebrate.
Some insiders have claimed Palace aides are keen to prevent the Sussexes from coming amid fears family dramas would overshadow the main event.
Prince Philip’s presence will be sorely missed at Balmoral this year as the royals continue to mourn him.
The late Duke was a huge fan of barbecues and had a special trailer made just for that purpose to use at Balmoral.
Describing the contraption in an interview following his death, Princess Anne said: “The trailer was designed specifically for that role.
“It was actually made by the engineer at Sandringham but it was designed entirely for that purpose and everything had a place and you needed to know where that was…and then it worked, really well!”
