When is GCSE results day 2019?

This year GCSE results day falls on Thursday, August 22, 2019, for England and for Wales.

The day GCSE results get released varies each year.

In Scotland, National 5 results day took place on August 6, 2019.

When do schools receive GCSE results?

Schools will be able to access GCSE results from most exam boards the day before, on Wednesday, August 21.

This means schools have access to students exam results before the students themselves do. 

However, students cannot access their results on this date.

Results released to schools on this day are only for headteachers and exam officers to access.

What time will I be able to pick up GCSE results?

Students are usually able to pick up their GCSE results from 10am on results day morning.

It is worth checking in advance what time a school is allowing students to pick up their exam results, as times will vary depending on the school.

In most instances, if you cannot be there to pick up your GCSE results in person, schools may allow you to receive them via email or by post.

What is the grading system for GCSE?

The recently introduced grading system for GCSE has moved on from the previous A*-U system.

Instead, grades are now numerical and can range from 9 to U.

The top grade, 9, is thought to be harder to attain than the old A* grade.

A grade 4 is similar to the previous C grade, which was considered a basic pass grade. Grade 5 is considered a strong pass.

It is thought schools will be hoping for at least a 5 grade in their student’s exam results. 

Many sixth forms will be looking for strong passes in their entry requirements.
