Royal Commentator and writer Claudia Joseph said both Prince Harry and William did well to hide any “antagonisms” during the unveiling of the Princess Diana statue at Kensington Palace. Ms Joseph even went as far as to say that the acting performance was on par with  Silence of the Lambs actor Anthony Hopkins and said both royals had a lifetime of duties and engagements to train them to appear civil for their public appearances. Ms Joseph added Prince Harry is only in the UK for a short amount of time for the event and feared it would not be long enough for any rifts to heal or to be addressed between the brothers.

Speaking to Sky News, Ms Joseph discussed the brothers meeting and how the event was as much about their relationship as it was about the statue unveiling.

She told the programme: “I think they could possibly give Anthony Hopkins run for his money in the way they have performed their roles so beautifully.

“And no one would know that they were at loggerheads behind closed doors.

“They both chatted together, they looked very comfortable, obviously they’ve been brought up to do this their whole lives.

“Certainly, we didn’t see any hint of antagonism between the two of them.”

Ms Josephs was then asked what the day would have meant for Harry and William considering the statue was in commission for over four years.

She replied: “I think it would be a lot of memories for them, it’s where they spent their childhood years with their mother.

“They would have spent a lot of time at Kensington Palace and they would remember the garden very well.

“It’s a place where members of the public can go and spend some time thinking about things and away from the bustle of Kensington High Street.”

But the royal expert was sceptical that the event would bring the warring royals together as the time did not appear right for the family to settle their differences.

When asked if they could reconcile, she said: “That is obviously the great hope and Harry is going to be here for a short amount of time.

“I fear that it’s going to take some time to reflect and to heal and obviously it’s made it much harder because Harry is in America and William is here.

“But, you know, I think if they reflect on anything is the fact that their mother really wanted them to rely on each other.

“She said to them as children you are the only two people who know what you’re going through

“I think that she would not want them to be at loggerheads and that she will ultimately bring them back together.”

Only a handful of guests were invited to Kensington Palace’s Sunken Gardens for the unveiling with the public unable to attend.

The brothers unveiled the statue together, created by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley, which represents Princess Diana with three children.

Harry and William published a joint statement on the day which read: “Today, on what would have been our Mother’s 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character – qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better.

“Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy.

“Thank you to Ian Rank-Broadley, Pip Morrison and their teams for their outstanding work, to the friends and donors who helped make this happen, and to all those around the world who keep our mother’s memory alive.”
