Gary Glitter 'had £15,000 knee op while handcuffed to his hospital bed'

Former pop star and convicted paedophile Gary Glitter was given a £15,000 knee operation while handcuffed to his hospital bed, it has been reported.

It is understood he spent five nights in his own side room at the Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester, with prison officers guarding him round the clock.

Glitter, 78, was serving his prison sentence at nearby HMP The Verne when the procedure is believed to have taken place last November.

According to The Sun, staff at the hospital found his behaviour ‘pervy’ and were disgusted by his tales of his time in Vietnam – where he was jailed for sexually abusing two young girls.

A source told the paper Glitter ‘seemed to revel in the attention’.

They added: ‘While he was there, Glitter was very chatty and cheerful — and over-friendly.

‘He asked quite a lot of questions about the staff, especially the younger female ones.

‘He took a shine to one young, female nurse who was quite attractive and it made her feel sick.

‘He also spoke quite a lot about going abroad, and said what a great time he had in Cambodia and Vietnam.

‘There was no shred of remorse about what he had done.’

Staff are said to have been told to avoid physical contact with him, and to remove their surnames from their badges.

They are also believed to have been told not to treat Glitter, who was reportedly booked into the hospital under his real named Paul Gadd, differently to any of their other patients.

Hundreds of patients are said to have been waiting more than four weeks for the same knee operation, though it is unclear how long it took the shamed singer to get it.

It comes after he was recalled to prison due to a breach in his licence conditions.

A video released earlier this month showed him asking how to avoid detection when web browsing on a smartphone at his bail hostel.

The former head of Scotland Yard’s Paedophile Unit later said he would ‘probably die in prison’ as a result.
