Garda in Munster are preparing a file to be brought to the Director of Public Prosecutions following an alleged rape of a 16-year-old boy by his girlfriend’s father.

The alleged incident is understood to have happened at a house in Munster last Friday night but was not brought to the attention of gardaí until Saturday afternoon.

The boy is understood to have alleged that he was raped by the father of his girlfriend after calling to her house.

A Garda spokesperson said detectives were currently “investigating an alleged sexual assault on a male youth, which is reported to have occurred in a house on December 28, 2018.

“A man in his 50s was arrested.

“He was later released and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions,” they added.

It is understood the teenager was brought to a sexual assault treatment centre where he received care following the incident.
