The teenage boy was attacked by a group of males with weapons in Rishton, Lancashire and is left with serious head injuries following the incident.

The gang of up to 30 teenagers attacked the victim near an old paper mill on Hermitage Street last Friday night just before 9pm.

Detectives are now appealing for anybody with information or footage which could assist the investigation to get in touch.

The shocking attack meant that the 17-year-old victim suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

Officers and a police dog recovered some weapons close to the scene related to the incident which is being described as “shocking and cowardly” by local police.

Police enquiries are ongoing in an attempt to identify all those involved in the assault.

Two boys, aged 16 and 17, and an 18-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, but they have since been released on bail.

DC Alyson Richards, of East CID, said: “This was a shocking and cowardly attack which has left the teenage victim with some very nasty injuries. Although already serious, they could have easily proved to be fatal.
