Two thugs were seen on bicycles in Marton Grove, Middlesbrough, during the time in which the cars were damaged. The attacks leave many residents, including young families, without vehicles in the run-up to Christmas.

Katie Carr, 24, and partner Ashley Connor, 30, said their car windows were smashed at around 11.30pm on Monday.

Katie, who is mum to five-month-old Amelia, told Teesside Live: “I can’t believe it’s happened to us so close to Christmas.

“It’s shocking to think people are capable of doing this sort of thing.

“Ashley had to go to work this morning which leaves me without a car now until we get the window fixed. It’s just not ideal.”

Katie, who is an admin assistant, told how it’s not the first time the pair have faced problems with vandals and thieves.

She added: “We’ve lived here for around six years and in that time we have had our shed broken into and our hot tub stolen, a wing mirror snapped off my car and tomato sauce poured all over it.

“It always seems to be when the cars are parked on the roadside rather than on the drive.

“The police came out this morning and are collecting CCTV together so hopefully whoever is responsible is caught as soon as possible.

“It’s the last thing we need as new parents, right before Christmas too.”

Marton Grove is a residential area, popular with families, just south of Middlesbrough town centre. Police are now working in the area to investigate the vandalism.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “At the moment there are 16 reports of criminal damage – on Southwell Road and Park Road South around 11.20pm on Monday.

“Officers believe that there are two male suspects who were on bikes.

“Anyone with information or any witnesses are asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
