'Further tests needed' to establish cause of 10-year-old Surrey girl's death

Additional tests are needed to determine how a 10-year-old girl died at a house in Surrey last week.

Sara Sharif’s body was discovered by police at an address in Horsell, near Woking, early in the morning on August 10, and a murder investigation was launched.

Officers have said they would like to speak to three people known to Sara who left the country with one-way tickets to Pakistan the day before her body was found, but have not released their names.

Detective superintendent Mark Chapman from the Surrey Police and Sussex Police major crime team said a post-mortem exam carried out on Tuesday concluded that the cause of her death was ‘still to be established’.

During a media briefing at Surrey Police headquarters, Det Sgt Chapman told reporters no arrests have been made.

Police in Pakistan say no formal approach has been made by the British authorities over the case. There is no extradition treaty between the two countries.

Nobody else was in the house on Hammond Road when officers found Sara’s body there at around 2.50am last Thursday.

The address remained cordoned off while investigators stayed on the scene, with locals laying flowers and other tributes outside.

Some of the bouquets had notes of condolences attached, with one reading: ‘Sweet girl, I’m so sorry that your sparkle was put out too soon.’

Earlier this week, Sara’s mother spoke about her grief and disbelief that her daughter was dead.

Olga Sharif was divorced from Sara’s father, who had custody of the child, and she said she had only been able to see her daughter twice since 2019.

She told the Sun: ‘There is nothing I can do that can bring her back to life, so I have to only remember the good times with her now. Life is really hard. It’s just not fair.’
