Furious Brexit Party voter launches into passionate rant against ‘loathsome’ politicians

Gerard from Crewe said he had wanted to back the Brexit Party at the upcoming election in the hope their candidate could help bring change to British politics. The Crewe and Nantwich constituency is one of several marginal seats Boris Johnson is hoping to secure come December to get an overall majority after Labour snatched the constituency in 2017. But Gerard told LBC he will have to cast his vote for the Tories rather than the Brexit Party prospective MP to keep the opposition out: “I hate our political system. I’m going to be forced to vote Tory although I’ve got no love for them and it’s because of this first-past-the-post system.

“It’s a small majority for the Labour Party and I don’t want them to get in here so I have to vote for someone that I don’t particularly like.

“Once this is done and dusted, and if the Tories get on with Brexit, normal service will be resumed. HS2 will be built because a lot of contracts have to go to the friends who have made donations to the party.

“We’ll still be short of policemen, nurses, doctors. The House of Lords will increase in size although everybody says they are going to shrink it.”

The seething caller admitted to wishing for “radical change” to put an end to the political system he “learned to loathe” because of failure to address real problems.

He continued: “We’ll just be ignored, the poor will still be poor, the rich will still be rich.

“That’s what drives me crazy. I was hoping, one day, we would have a radical change and the fact that the Brexit Party, for practical reasons, have had to withdraw is annoying me because, deep down, I want to vote for them.

“Just to bloody the nose but I know I have to vote Tory.”

Gerard added: “In the years I have been on this earth, I’ve had this system and I’ve learned to loathe it because all the problems we’ve got is because of these three parties that have continually c*cked up for the 58 years of my life.”

Earlier this month Nigel Farage pledged to unleash a whole force of prospective MPs to challenge traditional parties at the upcoming election.

The leading Brexiteer urged the Prime Minister to agree to a Leave Alliance to defeat Labour and minimise the intake of pro-Remain MPs in the new Parliament but was repeatedly refused.

And on Monday, the Brexit Party leader announced a major U-turn when he pulled out 317 candidates in constituencies where Tories are most likely to win to avoid splitting the Brexit vote.

Mr Farage however reiterated he is planning to field candidates in seats Mr Johnson’s candidates are unlikely to beat Labour in order to shrink majorities.

But Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell warned the move from Nigel Farage to stand down Brexit Party candidates from seats won by the Conservatives in 2017 will lead to more people voting for Labour.

Mr McDonnell told the Press Association: “It’s a Trump alliance, Trump gave him (Farage) these instructions last week and he’s followed them.

“He’s forged an alliance with Boris Johnson, and if the Tories got back in it would facilitate the sale of the NHS.”

The Labour frontbencher added: “I think it clarifies things completely. Ordinary people are realising now what they’re fighting against, which is an alliance with Johnson and Trump and Farage.

“And as a result of that, I think it’s going to consolidate our vote.”
