Anastasia Hanson, 56, launched the fundraiser on the GoFundMe website days after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s tell-all chat. During the bombshell interview, Harry claimed the Royal Family “literally cut me off financially” in the wake of Megxit.

The ‘Harry and Meghan $5 Donation to Buy Home’ fundraiser aimed to raise a staggering £7.1 million to help pay off Meghan and Harry’s mortgage on their million Montecito home.

The page has now been taken down, but it had raised at least £78.64 while it was still live.

The fundraiser urged people to cough up $5 (£3.59) to reach the eye-watering target.

Ms Hanson, who also lives in California, said on GoFundMe: “I am raising funds to pay off the mortgage for the Montecito, California home of Harry and Meghan.

“When they came to the USA they were without jobs and with limited funds.

“They’ve stated that they’ve had a very rough time, so this fundraiser is a way to give help, compassion, and love by paying their home loan in full.

“I personally relate to mental health, racial equality, diversity, and inclusivity.

“They both support these issues as well.

“Together, they can help bring healing and restoration to the whole world.”

Speaking to The Sun, Ms Hanson insisted the fundraiser was not a joke.

She added: “I like to help people and help them in any way I can.

“That gives me happiness.

“If you needed a home, I’d do the same for you. It’s a good deed.”

Asked about Meghan and Harry’s lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify, she told the newspaper: “I am aware of them.”

During the Sussexes’ explosive interview with Winfrey, which aired earlier this month, Harry said the royals “literally cut me off financially” in the first quarter of 2020.

He insisted he was forced to sign deals with Netflix and Spotify to pay for security.

Harry said he had what his late mother Princess Diana left him and “without that we would not have been able to do this”.

Ex-Suits star Meghan and Harry announced plans to step back as senior royals and become financially independent in January 2020.

They ended royal duties a year ago and have now set up home across the pond.

The couple, who are expecting their second child, have splashed out a reported £11 million on a family home in Santa Barbara where they are living with their young son Archie.
