Fully vaccinated travellers from the US and EU will be allowed to enter England without self-isolating, according to reports.

The Covid operations committee met this morning and full details of the decision will be released mid-afternoon, it is understood.

Sources told The Times that the change will come in on August 2 and that devolved nations are expected to follow suit.

Boris Johnson is said to be increasingly concerned that the EU is further ahead in welcoming international travellers.

Economists estimate that the UK is losing as much as £639million every day due to current curbs on tourism.

Since July 19, doubled jabbed residents in the UK could travel to amber countries and not have to self-isolate on return.

But people vaccinated outside the UK and wanting to visit do not have those same rights.

The travel industry had been pushing for the change in the rules so that tourists can more easily come to the UK.

However, although they will be able to avoid quarantine in England, US citizens are being advised not to travel to the UK by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The US border is also currently closed to the UK, as well as many other countries, except for US citizens.

Yesterday, Boris Johnson said a travel corridor between the UK and US is being considered.

The prime minister said the US is a ‘massively important partner’ for the UK, so they want people to be able to travel as freely as possible.

He told LBC: ‘We want people to be able to come from the US freely in a way that they normally do. We’re talking to them the whole time.

‘At the moment we’re dealing with a Delta wave, the US is dealing with a Delta wave, but be assured that we are on it the whole time. As soon as we have something to say about travel corridors you’ll be hearing from us.’

Earlier, Labour’s shadow transport secretary Jim McMahon said a decision on opening up to fully vaccinated EU and US travellers should only be made when the scientific advice says it is safe.

Labour is calling for an ‘international vaccine passport’ where agreement is reached with countries like America, Canada and the EU, he said.

Meanwhile, the aviation industry has been calling for a change after carrying out a 10-day trial of checking the vaccination status of passengers.

The companies said 99% of documents were verified correctly during the trial, which involved about 250 fully-vaccinated participants from the US, the Caribbean and Europe, travelling to Heathrow.
