BBC’S Naga Munchetty spoke to a fuel driver Iain and asked him to explain his recent experiences. The driver said that some cars have begun tailing his lorry in hopes that he is about to deliver some petrol. He added that Facebook and Whatsapp groups have begun sharing details regarding whether fuel stations have just had a delivery.

Ms Munchetty said: “I spoke to a gentleman called Iain who had texted into the programme.

“He delivers fuel for one of the big supermarket chains.

“He says he has suddenly become very popular.”

The driver Iain went on to explain the change in behaviour he has seen over the past few weeks.

“I have also heard that some Facebook groups have been advertising certain fuel stations have just had a delivery and that then goes around.”

Due to the panic buying of fuel, fights have occurred between drivers with some footage being caught on video.

A driver has been filmed holding what looked to be a “knife” when speaking angrily to another motorist who had allegedly attempted to queue-jump at a petrol station on Monday.

The alleged incident took place in Welling, in South East London.

A video shows the man holding the ‘knife’ gesturing at the blue Citroen driver, before cutting to a new shot where the man is on the other driver’s car bonnet.

The man allegedly claimed to have been waiting hours for petrol, being turned away because the pumps had run dry, according to the Evening Standard.

They also reported that the man returned later in a renewed effort to secure fuel.
