One man was left with “life-changing” injuries after being stabbed in Manchester, with eyewitnesses describing how he was hunted down by a group of “masked men” before being attacked. Police have now launched an urgent appeal for witnesses, and are continuing to question a 17-year-old boy arrested afterwards.

The shocking incident happened just before 5.30pm yesterday in Kenyon Way, with locals reporting seeing the three chased the victim down by three “masked figures”.

Emergency services attended and the man was taken to hospital, having suffered serious injuries Greater Manchester Police confirmed are believed to be “life-changing”.

The teenager was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

He remains in police custody for questioning.

Salford Police last night confirmed it had authorised stop and search powers after the attack.

It tweeted: “These temporary powers will allow police to stop & search people & vehicles to prevent serious violence & find weapons. This will be in place until 8:30am today (24/3/23).”

Initial enquiries suggest this is an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public, said police, but a crime scene remained in place over night while officers continued with their investigation.

Police are especially keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area before, during, or after the incident. Witnesses are being asked to share any information – or any CCTV, mobile, dashcam or doorbell footage with GMP.

Detective Inspector Sarah Ball of GMP Salford division said: “We understand this incident may cause concern to the local community, but I’d like to reassure residents we have officers working around the clock to establish the circumstances.

“Extra officers have been deployed to the area to reassure the community. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to them, they are there to support you.

“I would urge members of the public who witnessed anything to please come forward and report this information to us.

“No matter how small the information may seem, it could prove vital to the investigation.”

Information can be shared by calling 0161 856 5410 quoting log 2730 of 23/3/23 or by using GMP’s Live Chat function on its website www.gmp.police.uk.
