Fred and Rose West horror: The sick ‘shared psychosis’ of disturbing killers revealed

The documentary, which will be screened in March, will provide background into the lives of Fred and Rose West. Criminal psychologists and experts will also give an insight into what drove the married killers to murder multiple women and children.

The documentary will be shown on Crime+Investigation which will look at the couple’s relationship and the psychology behind the killings.

The couple lived in Gloucestershire in various addresses where they killed 12 women including their stepdaughter, their own daughter and Fred’s ex-wife.

Rose West was convicted of 10 counts of murder and is now serving a full life sentence in Wakefield.

It is unlikely she will ever be released.

Fred West was looking at 12 charges of murder relating to the bodies of young women found buried beneath their home at 25 Cromwell Street, Midland Road and two fields in Much Marcle.

Fred West confessed to some of the killings – including the murder of his own daughter – but took his own life before he could be convicted.

The documentary is being released after it emerged that Rose West’s former solicitor Leo Goatley believes she could have been involved in a case linked to her husband Fred.

It is now believed that the pair could have actually met two years earlier than people originally thought.

It is believed the couple met at a bus stop in Cheltenham in the ‘60s.

Rose was just a teenager working at a nearby cafe at the time.

Around this time, both parties were living in Bishop’s Cleeve.

Rose was living with her father Bill and Fred was living nearby at a caravan park with his daughters Charmaine and Anna Marie.

An explanation for the programme reads: “She was in many respects the more frightening, volatile, sadistic and passionately wicked half of ‘Fred and Rose.’”

The programme alleges that the couple fell into a “shared psychosis”.

Author of Jigsaw Man, Paul Britton will also share his views on the Wests after he visited the murder sites.

New Hall jail where Rose is living out the rest of her days is located in West Yorkshire.

Their murders – along with many others – remained undiscovered until one of their other children’s remains were excavated from the Wests’ back garden.

After her body was found, the police unearthed more victims buried at 25 Cromwell Street – a house which soon became known as ‘The House of Horrors’.

There were three in the garden, one under the kitchen, five in the cellar, and three more buried elsewhere.

However, the exact number of victims is still unknown.
