Fox cub rescued after getting its head stuck in wheel
A fox cub has been rescued by firefighters after its head became stuck in a wheel.
A crew from the Knightswood Community Fire Station in Glasgow, Scotland, used cutting equipment to help free the beleaguered critter on Sunday.
The cub was not injured and “ran off to enjoy the rest of the night”, the firefighters said in a tweet.
They also shared pictures of the fox’s head wedged inside the rusty wheel.
The firefighters were applauded on Twitter for their efforts, with one user writing: “Good job folks.”
Although the number of foxes living in the UK is not officially recorded, the number in urban areas is thought to have increased from 33,000 in 1995 to 150,000 in 2017.
But red fox populations declined by 44% in 2018, according to the British Bird Survey, and it is not known why.
