Four boys, aged 15 to 17, charged over homophobic bus attack

Four teenagers have been charged over a homophobic attack against two women on a London bus.

The boys, two aged 16, one aged 15 and another aged 17, have been charged with an aggravated hate crime over the incident on May 30, said police on Thursday.

Melania Geymonat, 28, and her girlfriend Chris, released a shocking picture of themselves covered in blood after they said they refused to kiss for a ‘gang of men’.

One of the 16-year-olds, from Wandsworth, south London, is also charged with theft and handling stolen goods, while the other, from the borough of Kensington and Chelsea, is accused of possessing cannabis.

The 15-year-old boy, also from Kensington and Chelsea, faces an additional charge of handling stolen goods.

All four are due to appear at Highbury Corner Youth Court on August 21.

The attack happened on the top of a double-decker London N31 bus as they were travelling to Camden Town at around 2.30am after the women boarded in West Hampstead, said Scotland Yard.

A young group of men soon allegedly began harassing the women when they found out they were a couple and tried to force them to kiss while making sexual gestures.

When they refused both women were beaten by the thugs before having a phone and bag stolen.

The couple were taken to hospital with facial injuries and shared the aftermath of their horrific injuries.

Ryanair worker Melania recalled the incident in a brave Facebook post, along with the image of the pair covered in blood just after they were attacked.

She wrote: ‘In an attempt to calm things down, I started making jokes. I thought this might make them go away.

‘Chris even pretended she was sick, but they kept on harassing us, throwing us coins and becoming more enthusiastic about it.

‘The next thing I remember was Chris in the middle of them and they were beating her. ‘I didn’t think about it and went in. I was pulling her back and trying to defend her so they started beating me up.

‘I don’t even know if I was knocked unconscious. I felt blood, I was bleeding all over my clothes and all over the floor.

‘We went downstairs and the police were there.’
