Former soldier admits killing dad, two children and their dog in crash

A former soldier has admitted killing a dad, his two children and their dog while drink driving.

Joshua Flynn, 37, was killed along with his son Coby-Jay, 15, and daughter Skylar, 12, as they took a Father’s Day walk in Dalton-in-Furness, Cumbria, on June 21 last year.

The family, along with their beloved dog Troy, all died after being struck by a Peugeot 206 driven by David Logan.

Yesterday, former soldier Logan, 47, appeared via video-link from HMP Preston to admit three counts of causing death by dangerous driving and another count of destroying property — Yorkshire terrier Troy.

Preston crown court heard his breathalyser reading after the crash was 141mcg per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Logan, of Dalton, was remanded in custody for sentencing on April 19.

Mr Justice Goss told him: ‘As you know, there is going to be a very substantial sentence for these offences.’

The Flynn family previously released a statement paying tribute to the ‘doting dad’ and his children.

‘From the minute we received this terrible news our whole world has been turned upside down and no words can describe how devastated we are feeling,’ it said.

‘We are utterly heartbroken and upset by the loss of Joshua, Coby-Jay and Skylar.’

The children’s mother Emma, 35, was not with them at the time of the crash, only later learning her family had died when visited by police.

The statement added: ‘Joshua was a family man and a good guy. He was a loving husband and doting Dad. Joshua was fitness mad and loved going to the gym and exercising.

‘Coby-Jay was a typical teenager, obsessed with computers and computer games, in particular his Nintendo.

‘Skylar, like any young girl at the moment, was TikTok mad. She was always so happy with a lovely smile on her face.’

‘Troy was another member of the family; such a good and well-behaved lad. His loss is also felt.’
