Former Blue Peter presenter John Leslie has been charged with a sex offence in relation to an incident in Westminster in 2008.

The 54-year-old, from Edinburgh, was charged with sexual touching of a woman aged 16 or over, contrary to the sexual offences act, on 5 June.

Scotland Yard said the allegation relates to an incident in December 2008, when the victim was aged 30.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the claim and Leslie, who presented Blue Peter from 1989 to 1994, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 25 July.

Leslie is also known for a three-year stint on ITV’s This Morning, running from 1999 to 2002, and appeared on the game shows Wheel Of Fortune and Survivor during that same period.
