Although the members of the public across the country have had their movements restricted, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 have continued to increase.  Under the provisions, the Prime Minister asked the nation to only leave the house when it is absolutely necessary while he also empowered the police to enforce these measures when appropriate. He did add, however, add the provisions will be reviewed in three weeks and could possibly be relaxed if the number of cases began to drop. 

With that in mind, Express.co.uk asked, ‘Do you think UK lockdown will be extended after three weeks?’

In response to the poll, 7,440 (87 percent) out of 8,456 voted that they believed Mr Johnson will extend the lockdown after three weeks.

A further 831 (10 percent) answered ‘no’ while just 185 said they were not sure. 

Commenting on the poll, one person said: “My prediction is for another three weeks followed by two weeks.

“This will only work if all travel into to UK is stopped or anyone arriving here is forced to isolate for three weeks before being given the all-clear.”

Another said: “Of course it will be extended – I don’t think this situation will be over in three months, nevermind three weeks.”

A third said: “These restrictions will last for most of the summer in one way or another I should think.

“Unless there is some positive reduction in the rates of infections and fatalities, we will probably go to a very severe lockdown.

“Much of it thanks to the boneheads who will not take care of themselves or others.”

Another said: “I think we can forget holidays abroad for at least this year.”

Mr Johnson warned the public he will only relax the measures if the social distancing measured are adhered to throughout the three week period. 

Indeed, NHS England’s medical director Stephen Powis warned the public cannot get complacent over the measures if cases begin to drop.

He spoke at the Government’s daily press conference on Saturday after a further 260 deaths were reported in 24 hours. 

He said: “Clearly there has been a big increase in deaths today. 

“If we can keep deaths below 20,000 we will have done very well in this epidemic. 

“It is early at the moment and the scientists who are working with the government to model what we can expect are of course adjusting their predictions now as we start to see the actuality of the epidemic in the UK, rather than what we believed might have happened a few weeks ago.”

Field hospital, NHS Nightingale is being constructed in London in order to lessen the burden on NHS hospitals. 

A further two hospitals in Birmingham and Manchester have also been planned. 

As it stands, 1,028 people have died from the virus in the UK while there have also been a confirmed 17,089 cases across the country.
