The vile fly-tippers have blocked a route for paramedics carrying dying patients to end of life care. The huge pile of rubbish included a petrol lawnmower and broken glass which obstructed vehicles from getting to Keech Hospice in Luton, Bedfordshire.

A hospice staff member warned that the fly-tippers’ behaviour could block dying adults and children from entering the hospice and getting the care they need.

Lorna Chinnock, communications manager at the hospice, said: “We very often take people for end of life care. They would be blocked from getting into the hospice.

“The fly-tipping has happened on numerous occasions, but this is the worst we have seen it.

“It was all across the road and completely blocking the entrance.”

Ms Chinnock said that hospice staff moved the rubbish to the side of the road before council workers arrived to clear it yesterday.

Hospice staff took to social media to brand the fly-tippers’ behaviour as “horrible” and “saddening”.

They said in a statement: “It is a serious situation as it could prevent an ambulance from reaching the hospice and we have had to inform patients due to visit the hospice today.

“Fly-tipping anywhere is not good, but it is especially horrible to see it on a lane that leads to a hospice that cares for children and adults with life-limiting or terminal illnesses.

“Visitors come here to see loved ones we care for and today this will have been the first thing they will have seen. It is not the welcoming message we would like for Keech Hospice Care.

“We hope the people who are dumping the rubbish realise what they are doing and stop.”

Keech Hospice Care has eight beds for adults and runs a day centre for patients nearing the end of their lives.

The hospice specialises in caring for terminally ill children in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes.
