First picture of schoolgirl, 10, who died after being hit by ambulance

A schoolgirl who died after being hit by an ambulance just days before Christmas has been named as Shaniqua Loftman-Smith.

The 10-year-old’s heartbroken family have released an image of the young girl smiling in her uniform.

Shaniqua was rushed to hospital in a critical condition following the collision, which occurred in the Bulwell area of Nottingham at 6.30pm on December 22.

The ambulance was responding to a 999 call at the time of the crash and police are continuing enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Nottinghamshire police confirmed this morning that she had sadly died and offered condolences to her family.


A police spokesperson said: ‘Nottinghamshire Police would like to offer their condolences to Shaniqua’s family, who are being supported by our specially trained officers.

‘Officers from Nottinghamshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are continuing enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

‘Anyone who witnessed the collision, has any information or dashcam footage is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 650 of December 22.’
