Fire at Dundrum Town Centre forces temporary closure of restaurant, causes water damage in number of outlets

An overnight fire in Dundrum Town Centre has led to the temporary closure of a restaurant and water damage in a number of outlets.

The fire broke out in the popular TGI Friday’s restaurant at around 1am.

The centre’s sprinkler system was activated by the heat and immediately stopped the fire from spreading.

However, water leaking down to the lower floors also disrupted the Movies @ Dundrum cinema and some water damage in a small number of shops.

While the cinema was open for business today a manager said two screens had been closed because of water leaking into them.

A section of the entrance lobby was cordoned off today where water had soaked into its carpet.

It is understood the fire may have been electrical in nature and was confined to the kitchen area of the restaurant.

“We will be closed for today and are assessing the damage. Thankfully the damage is limited to part of the kitchen,” said a TGI Friday’s staff member.

A spokesman for the Dundrum Town Centre said the alarm was raised at 1am.

“The Centre’s safety systems operated as required and damage was limited. All outlets apart from the restaurant are trading this morning,” he said.

Dublin Fire Brigade were quickly on the scene with three fire tenders, a rescue tender, a hydraulic platform, a District Officer and an ambulance as a precaution.

There were no reports of injuries.

A clean-up and damage assessment operation was underway at the centre today.
