The Queen was photographed with the new Prime Minister Liz Truss on Tuesday for a swearing-in ceremony. A furious LBC caller named Richard from Hitchen was outraged at the fact all lights were on, with a fire burning in the background, amid the energy crisis. Britons are bracing for an 80 percent hike in their energy bills from October 1 if Liz Truss fails to act.

LBC’s caller Richard could not help but notice all the lights were on and a fire burning in the room the Monarch and the Prime Minister were in.

Richard said: “All it was just this morning over breakfast, I saw this particular photograph of our Queen and the prime Minister.

“And in the background, they’ve got a lovely roaring fire, lights on, lights on everywhere.

“I was just thinking to myself, you would’ve thought somebody around them would have said: ‘we can’t have the photographs going out’.”

LBC’s Nick Ferrari was left stunned by Richard’s comments, saying: “What, what, what, what?

“What’s the problem with the picture?” he asked, visibly puzzled.

Richard said: “Well, it’s the energy crisis really. I mean, I don’t many people that can afford to have their gas fire on at the beginning of September.

“Surely, they should have shown sensitivity there.”

Mr Ferrari asked: “Is it a gas fire or a log fire?”

Richard retorted: “Well it doesn’t make a great deal of difference, I think, because it’s still energy being used. And it’s the lights that are on.”

Mr Ferrari interjected: “I hear what you say, sir. But here are couple of observations. We’re talking about the Queen, a 96-year-old woman.

“I do think it’s appropriate that she has – I don’t it’s a log or a gas fire. We’re talking about a historic picture with the Prime Minister, so I do think it should be properly lit.”

Taking issue with Richard, LBC’s Ferrari added: “What are you suggesting? We have the monarch standing by one bar and a gas fire and is just illuminated by a minus helmet.”

Richard said: “Well, that’s not quite really what I was suggesting at all. And I think you’re taking me somewhere where I didn’t suggest that.”

Mr Ferrari insisted: “She’s 96.”

Richard elaborated: “All it was was the sensitivity. You would’ve thought somebody somewhere would’ve said: ‘Do we necessarily have to have so many lights on?’

“Because you say a 90-year-old woman. I can assure you there would be 90-year-old people that won’t put the fire on because they can’t afford it.”
