Father and son, 14, arrested after teen 'used dad's gun to kill teenage girl'

A New Mexico father and his son, 14, have been charged by state police after a 13-year-old girl was killed allegedly using her dad’s weapons.

Four youths were listening to music at 104 Cabresto Road in Questa, a village in Taos County, on July 28 when the boy aimed a pistol at the girl.

The teen pulled the trigger, killing her, before ‘dragging the female’s body outside’ and heading back into the property, the New Mexico Department of Public Safety said.

Police alleged that the teenager’s father, William Brown, 39, came into the residence after and he and the son refused to step outside when police arrived.

The tense standoff lasted for 30 minutes.

Police eventually cuffed and booked the boy at San Juan Juvenile Detention Center in Farmington.

The teen, who has not been identified by authorities, was charged with an open count of murder in the first degree and two counts of tampering with evidence.

He also faces two counts of assault on a police officer, though the force did not provide any further details.

Brown, the safety department added, owned the pistol and has been charged with making a firearm accessible to a minor resulting in death.

He has been booked into the Taos County Detention Center.

The New Mexico State Police said it will out of respect for the victim’s family not name her.

All information in the case will be handed to the district attorney’s office, the safety department said, with the investigation ongoing.

Questa Village Mayor John Anthony Ortega said in a Facebook post: ‘I am saddened by the tragedy that happened yesterday.

‘My thoughts and prayers go out to the families, community members and First Responders who were affected by it.’
