The 20-year-old son of murdered burglary gang leader ‘Fat’ Andy Connors has been awarded €10,000 in damages after he sued his aunt over a car crash.

John Connors, of Blessington Road, Saggart, Co Dublin, won the damages in the Circuit Civil Court for back and neck injuries he suffered in a car accident on December 2, 2010, when he was 15.

Barrister Timothy Sheahan told Circuit Court President Mr Justice Raymond Groarke that Mr Connors had sued his aunt, Bridget Connors, in whose car he was a passenger when it struck a wall at Kiltipper Road, Tallaght, Dublin.

Mr Connor’s father ‘Fat’ Andy Connors was gunned down in front of his wife Anne at his home in Saggart last August.

The 45-year-old – whose thugs terrorised people across Ireland in a campaign of burglaries in recent years – was buried in a €28,000 gold-plated coffin.

In court yesterday, Mr Sheahan said liability had been admitted in the case relating to the car crash which had become an assessment of damages.

John Connors told the court he had suffered neck and back injuries and had afterwards been treated in Tallaght Hospital where he attended on four or five occasions for physiotherapy.

He said he suffered from an unrelated liver condition which required him to stick to a low protein diet.

He was unable to take alcohol and his condition would result in premature ageing.

Mr Connors told barrister Adrianne Fields, counsel for Bridget Connors’ insurance company, that he had no memory of a second accident in which he had been involved in April 2011 in Cork and for which there now seemed to be a damages claim “still out there”.

He said he did recall his father having taken him to another firm of solicitors about a second accident but he did not know who the company was or where they were situated.

Connors said he would not have been able to find his way back to that firm of solicitors and his father had since been murdered.

He was not aware of another set of court proceedings relating to the second accident and said he had not initiated any.

Judge Groarke, awarding Connors €10,000 damages and his costs, said it had not been contested that he had suffered some degree of soft tissue injuries to his neck and back.
