Farage SHRUGS OFF milkshake attack with quick joke to HUGE CHEERS at Brexit Party rally

Nigel Farage had a milkshake thrown over him on Monday during a campaign visit to Newcastle ahead of Thursday’s European elections. Speaking in Bolton on Monday evening at a Brexit Party rally, the leader hit out at the “extremes of the Remain campaign” before he was given a huge cheer following a quick joke. He said: “I won’t even acknowledge the low-grade behaviour that I was subject to this morning. I won’t dignify it.

“I will ignore it, perhaps keep buying new clothes and carry on.”

The quick joke received cheers from some members of the audience before Mr Farage continued.

He added: “Let me say this, for a civilised democratic nation to function, in democracy, the loser has to give their consent. The loser has to accept they have lost the election, and do their best to win the next election.

“That is how our system works. If the loser does not give consent, then the whole democratic process, the effect of an election being like a safety valve is lost.

“What we have seen in this country since that referendum are very very senior members of public life in this country, former Prime Minister’s like Blair, John Major, even the leaders today, Vince Cable, senior public figures in this country do not accept the result of the greatest democratic exercise in the history of our nation.

“They have done and they will do all that they can to stop it. To cancel it, to force us to vote again. They have given the impression their view has a moral superiority over our view. They are better people than us because don’t forget, they tell us over and over and over that we didn’t know what we voted for, the sheer arrogance of it.

“But, the serious point, is this. In doing so, they have radicalised, albeit a small number, they have radicalised a group of people in this country who themselves believe they have a superior view to the majority, and when you have that mindset, if you believe you are better than other people, history shows, in those circumstances, people are capable of appalling behaviour.

“We are now seeing the extremes of the Remain campaign, acting in an openly abusive way to ordinary members of the public who dare to say they support Brexit, acting in a violent way, do you know we even had in Wales, last week, people lying in the road to try to stop cars coming into our public event. They are trying to close down democracy.

“When democracy breaks down, civility breaks down, and that is where we are in this country today.”

Mr Farage later wrote on Twitter: “Whatever they throw at us, we will never give up”.

Footage on Monday showed Brexit Party leader Mr Farage drenched in white milkshake during a campaign visit to Newcastle ahead of Thursday’s EU elections.

Security was seen escorting Mr Farage away from crowds following the incident, while a person was dragged away by a Police Community Support Officer and was later seen in handcuffs.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of common assault, Northumbria Police said. A spokesman said: “A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of common assault and remains in police custody.”

Tweeting after the incident, Mr Farage wrote: “Sadly some Remainers have become radicalised, to the extent that normal campaigning is becoming impossible.

“For a civilised democracy to work you need the losers consent, politicians not accepting the referendum result have led us to this.”

During an interview with LBC’s Iain Dale, former Prime Minister Tony Blair was asked what he made of the incident.

Furious, the former Prime Minister said: “Horrible and ridiculous. People shouldn’t do it.”

He added: “I can’t stand this. I feel very strongly about this. The guy is entitled to his point of view. I profoundly disagree with him.

“But we’ve got to get out of this situation where if you disagree with someone, you stop them speaking, you disrupt their meetings, you throw things over them, it’s ridiculous.”
