Nigel Farage has predicted that Prince Philip’s death will result in a rising popularity of the royals around the world. Mr Farage said that the Duke of Edinburgh’s death, announced yesterday, will draw a line under recent crises facing the family. Speaking to Fox News, the former Brexit Party leader said: “People will realise what a big deal the British monarchy is.”

The Fox News host told Mr Farage: “Recently there have been people in the UK saying we really shouldn’t be funding the Royal Family, maybe it’s the end of the Royal Family.

“That was a few weeks. I think now, given the retrospective of his life, there is going to be great nostalgia for this man and the family.”

Mr Farage responded: “Absolutely!

“When people see the tributes pouring in from all over the world, especially from our Commonwealth, which the Queen is the head of and which Philip played such a big role in.

“People will realise what a big deal the British monarchy is.”

Mr Farage also praised Prince Philip as an “incredible public servant”.

Earlier today, tributes were paid to the Duke of Edinburgh across the world.

The military paid tribute to Prince Philip with royal gun salutes across the UK and on warships.

These took place in cities including London, Edinburgh and Cardiff, and at Hillsborough Castle in County Down.

When leaving Windsor Castle today, the Countess of Wessex said that the Queen “has been amazing” following the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.

All three of the Queen’s sons have visited her at Windsor following Prince Philip’s death on Friday.

Prince Philip was Queen Elizabeth II’s husband of 73 years, and died at Windsor Castle at the age of 99.

Announcing the Duke’s death on Friday, Buckingham Palace said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty the Queen announces the death of her beloved husband.

“The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”

Final details of the Philip’s funeral are expected to be released across this weekend.
