Farage erupts in explosive clash with caller over EU army – ‘When will you stop lying?’
Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage erupted during a huge row with a radio caller over the prospect of the development of an EU army. The European Union has recently taken big steps to boost defence cooptation among the bloc, and on Tuesday Nigel Farage delivered a speech in the European Parliament warning against its development. But, speaking on his LBC show, Mr Farage clashed with a caller who said the UK would be able to put a stop to an EU army from forming.
The caller, known as Chris, said: “Is it correct the UK is perfectly able to block or veto any move towards an EU army? You know very well it is, isn’t it?”
Mr Farage quickly replied: “Well, this is very interesting. No, effectively no. No! Enhanced cooperation, so it happens anyway.”
As the radio caller continued trying to make his point, the Brexit Party leader interrupted saying: “When will you stop lying?”
He added: “Everybody here now wants an EU army. And Chris, significantly, what they also want is to have an EU Foreign Policy, without any member state veto.
When will you stop lying?

“I am saying to you this will destroy Nato, I think that is very serious.”
The caller, Chris, replied: “But Nigel, that is a blatant lie.
“You’re telling me seriously that we would not be able to veto an EU army? That is absolutely factually incorrect.”
But, Farage finished the row by insisting the UK could 100 percent “not veto an EU army”.
Finishing his speech in the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday, before Ursula von der Leyen was elected as the next European Commission President, Mr Farage branded the former German defence minister as a “fanatic”.
Mr Farage said: “It is in the aspect of defence I think people’s minds should be focused. She’s a fanatic for building a European army. But she’s not alone, when it’s completed Nato will cease to exist or have any relevance in Europe at all.
“Be in no doubt, five years of these people the European defence union will be complete. And what is there for defence can also be used for attack. And you as a house will have no control over it.
“Vote against this nominee, strike a blow for democracy, strike a blow for your citizens, do it today. What is there for defence can be used for attack.”
Mr Farage also mocked Emmanuel Macron who showed support for an EU army in his Bastille Day speech last weekend.
The French President looked like an “updated version of Napoleon” while delivering his address in front of military figures, according to Mr Farage.
He said: “Not to be left out of this French President Emmanuel Macron on Bastille Day last Sunday stood at the front of an open-top car with his nascent European defence force behind him looking for all the world like an updated version of Napoleon.”

Troops from ten countries took part in the Bastille Day celebrations on Sunday, with 4,000 military personnel marching down the Champs Elysees as 69 planes and 39 helicopters took to the skies.
President Macron last year claimed the EU would not be “protected” until all European Union members states agreed to the need for a “real European army”.
Speaking to Europe 1 to defend his support for the EU army project, the French President said in November: “I believe in a project of a sovereign Europe, a powerful Europe.
“We won’t protect Europeans if we don’t settle on having a real European army.”
