The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both 39, shared a new image of the family last week which will be featured on this year’s Christmas card. Looking at the family’s recent Christmas photo, body language expert Darren Stanton said the poses of the family members spoke a lot about their personalities.

Speaking to Coffee Friend about the image, Darren said everyone in the picture displayed “genuine emotion”.

Mr Darren said: “The first thing that strikes me about the photo is that everybody pictured is flashing a genuine smile – so often in photographs, no matter how important the person being photographed is, fake smiles are shown and faces can seem very disingenuous.

“In this particular picture, everyone is displaying genuine emotion, which would suggest it’s a very happy time for the family right now.”

The family releases a festive photo every year during the Christmas season, and this year the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge opted for a fun snap taken in Jordan.

Mr Darren said: “ Kate always flashes a great smile, her whole face is engaged and her Crow’s feet – the three lines at the side of the eyes – are visible, which denotes a genuine smile and it is congruent with how open and inviting the rest of her body language is.

“Her maternal intuition beams through, as she has her hand on the back of Prince George in a reassuring way.”

The expert also noted the similarities in George and Louis’ body language and how it contrasted to Princess Charlotte.

He said: “While the two princes, George and Louis, have adopted the same pose and position with their arms and legs – mirroring each other, Princess Charlotte sits with a slightly more turned posture suggesting she has a different personality to her siblings.”

The Cambridges have shared a number of behind-the-scenes family moments with the public this year, most notably in a video that William and Kate posted on their official social media channels to celebrate their 10th anniversary.

The couple is set to join the Queen to Sandringham for this year’s Christmas celebrations.

The Queen is set to hold her annual family Christmas party at Windsor Castle despite the rising Omicron cases in the UK, a news report has claimed.
