The family of a missing 21-year-old British backpacker is flying out to Cambodia to join the search for her.

Amelia Bambridge, from Worthing, was last seen at a beach party on Koh Rong island at 3am on Wednesday.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said it was assisting the family of a British woman reported missing in Cambodia and had been in close contact with Cambodian police.

The 21-year-old was travelling on her own for the first time and had been due to check out of the Nest Beach Club hostel on Friday.

Her mother, Linda Bambridge, said her daughter had since been “declared officially missing”.

The missing backpacker’s handbag – including her purse, phone and bank cards – were found on the beach on Wednesday night and her passport is still at the youth hostel.

There is believed to be no lighting from the beach to the Nest Beach Club, a 40-minute walk away, according to The Argus.

Ryan Harris, who is also backpacking in Cambodia and met up with Ms Bambridge, told Sky News: “Last thing I heard is everybody is looking, it’s a whole island thing now. Everyone is looking – tourists, locals and police, literally everyone has come together.

“I hear there are also drones patrolling the coastline now too.

“We are all just really hoping she is safe and hoping for the best now and waiting for any news from the island.”

Friends and relatives have also put out emotional pleas on social media to help find the missing 21-year-old.

Her brother, Harry Bambridge, wrote on Facebook: “For all the religious people can you please do me a big favour and pray for my sister Amelia Bambridge, I’m about to board a plane from LA as she’s been missing on her travels in Cambodia for over 48 hours now.

“I’ve asked who ever might be up there, to look after her for just another 20 hours and her big brother will be there.”

Ms Bambridge’s sister, Georgie, 19, told The Argus it was out of character for her sibling to be out of contact.

“I’m just in shock, she has never done anything like this before,” she said.

“I spoke to her Wednesday and she normally messages us every now and then, every time she got wifi.

“I told her to put loads of pictures online to see what she was up to.”
