Family ‘flees pub without paying £215 bill for Father’s Day meal and cocktails’

A pub in Cornwall has said it lost £215 after four people dined out on roast dinners and cocktails on Father’s Day before allegedly sneaking off without paying. Two couples, along with a toddler and baby, were caught on CCTV at The Fisherman’s Arms, Newlyn, Cornwall.

A man from the group reportedly approached the bar and asked how much their bill came to.

He is believed to have then studied the bill and told a member of staff the women had gone to the loo.

The punter reportedly said they were going outside for a cigarette and would return to settle up.

But the pub staff later discovered that the women had already left.

Pub manager, Lucy, told the Mirror it was the first time the venue had been left short.

She said: “They are not from round here. You want to trust people, but this wasn’t an accidental walk-off.

“You can see one of the men shushing the other as they walk away on the CCTV.”

The pub, which looks onto Newlyn Harbour, took to social media in a bid to track down the group.

It tweeted: “Anyone know who these people are? Just did a runner without paying, 2 went out the front door and 2 out the back!”

Lucy said: “One of them came up to the bar, had a look at the bill and said the women were in the toilet.

“He said they were going out for a cigarette and would come back to settle up, but they left.
