Royal author Katie Nicholl said a return of the so-called Fab Four is not looking likely at the moment. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are now living in California after quitting royal duties, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were given the nickname before their split.

Ms Nicholl told ET: “I think the idea of seeing this reprisal of the Fab Four – Harry and Meghan, William and Kate – is really so far down the future.

“It’s almost quite hard to even envision it at the moment.

“So much has happened.

“There is so much hurt on either side.”

Brothers William and Harry – whose bond once appeared unbreakable – raised hopes of a reconciliation when they were spotted chatting after Prince Philip’s funeral last weekend.

It was the first time the siblings have been seen in public together since Megxit.

Harry travelled to Britain for the first time since he and Meghan quit as working royals last year.

His trip also came weeks after their controversial Oprah Winfrey interview, which saw the Sussexes make a set of astonishing claims about the royals.

Harry laid bare his rift with his father Prince Charles and his older brother as he poured his heart out to Winfrey.

Ms Nicholl said Harry, William and Charles walked around the grounds of Windsor Castle after the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral.

She said: “It was Prince Charles’ idea to get the boys together after the wake.

“There really wasn’t any other time as Prince Harry was in self-isolation for the days leading up to the funeral for them to get together.

“I think it was quite an important meeting and, as I said, it was Charles’ suggestion.

“William was also there, and Harry was also happy to go along with that.

“And that really was the first time that the three of them, father and sons, were able to come together and have a private, informal meeting.”

But the royal expert warned the rift is “not going to be resolved in one or two family meetings”.

She added: “I think there’s still quite a way to go. The idea that Harry’s suddenly going to come around to William’s way of thinking, and vice versa, I think is a way off.

“I think there do need to be more conversations, there’s clearly still a lot of hurt, a lot of resentment, and a degree of mistrust on both parts.”

The brothers are set to be reunited again in July for the unveiling of a statue dedicated to their late mother Princess Diana.

Ms Nicholl said it is hoped William and Harry’s relationship will be “stronger and in a better place” by then.
