The protester developed symptoms of coronavirus and so took a lateral flow test after the weekend of rallies across Cornwall. More than 400 members of the climate change activist group camped together near Carbis Bay hotel in St Ives, where the world leaders were staying. 

But now the protester will have to self-isolate, Cornwall Live reports.

Speaking yesterday, the spokesman for Extinction Rebellion said: “One of our rebels on the main XR campsite has developed Covid symptoms today and has taken a lateral flow test which came back positive. The individual has gone home to self isolate.

“We have identified the close contacts and are providing lateral flow test kits for them. We wanted to provide you with all the information that we have so that you can make your own decision about continuing with your Rebellion.

“We have decided to go ahead with Sunday’s activities for those that wish to continue and we will keep the situation under review. We will keep you informed of any developments.

“We urge all rebels to adhere to the control measures set out in our Covid risk assessments. This will minimise the risk of coronavirus transmission.

“We take Covid seriously.”

The group said it reminds all members to wear masks and socially distance themselves at all its events.

Among the multiple protests over the weekend, the group held beachside demonstrations and danced on streets.

They intended to draw the world leaders’ attention to the issue of climate change.
