Eugenie in difficult position over Harry as ‘Top Ten’ urged to close ranks

King Charles Coronation: Princess Eugenie arrives

Princess Eugenie has been left conflicted between her ties to both Prince Harry and the Royal Family, as the most senior royals have been urged to put on a united front against the Sussexes, according to a royal insider.

King Charles and his advisors have reportedly asked essential family members, known as the ‘Top Ten’ to band together as a solid front while the feud with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex rages on.

A source has claimed: “The situation with the Sussexes is starting to overshadow everything the Royal Family does, and they’ve had enough of it.

“Meetings were held in late October about the best way to handle it and the only solution is for them to close ranks and show how united they are. Division in a situation like this is out of the question.”

The Top Ten group consists of both senior working royals, such as the King and Queen Camilla, Prince William and Princess Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Anne, as well as those high up in the line of succession, such as Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

While Eugenie and Harry are still good friends despite his rift with the Firm, she is unlikely to want to risk her relationship with the other royals either.

The source added: “Eugenie has been making her way back into the family’s good graces of late and she doesn’t want anything to jeopardise that, but she’s still very close with both Harry and Meghan.

“She’s a bit confused over the best way to handle the situation, but it’s got to a point now where she needs to make a choice between the future of her family or maintaining a close bond with someone who is hellbent on tearing it down.”

The York sisters are not currently working royals, although they occasionally attend royal events, with speculation mounting that they could be welcomed more into the family fold as the younger face of the monarchy.

However royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams thinks this is unlikely, telling Express.co.uk: “Normally, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, who carry out some charitable duties, would have been ideal to step in.

“However their official involvement, owing to their father’s disgrace, would be highly controversial.”

Their father Prince Andrew was forced to step down as a working royal following questions over his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein and allegations made against him by Virginia Giuffre, which he has strenuously denied.

Meanwhile relations between the Sussexes and the Firm remain at an all-time low, after it was revealed last week that Harry and Meghan had not been invited to King Charles’s 75th birthday on Tuesday.

The couple are usually invited to large royal events, such as the Coronation and the Platinum Jubilee, however this year they did not make the cut.

The King reportedly wants a smaller celebration for his landmark birthday this year, with celebrations happening today at Highgrove and tomorrow at Clarence House.
