Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice helped to start a “weird obsession” with fascinators, royal commentators have claimed. The York daughters’ infamous 2011 Royal Wedding headpieces were discussed in the wake of Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, celebrating their 10th anniversary. HeirPod host Omid Scobie discussed his favourite moments from the day with ABC News foreign correspondent Maggie Rulli.
He told listeners: “I’ll always have fond memories from that day of things that perhaps weren’t the main big ticket items.
“My first thoughts when it comes to the Royal Wedding are always going to be of Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice’s fascinators.
“In fact, the world had a weird obsession with fascinators after that wedding.”
Ms Rulli added: “As an American watching it, everyone was sort of confused, if I’m honest.”
She continued: “We kept thinking, ‘what are these things?’
“And there were so many lists about the top 10 royal hats.
“They were almost like artwork on people’s heads.
“I’d never seen anything like it before.”

Both of the sisters wore one-of-a-kind fascinators by royal-favorite hat designer Philip Treacy.
Eugenie’s was a blue headpiece with a massive purple flower topped with a white feather.
She paired it with a Vivienne Westwood dress.

Beatrice’s was beige with an upright oval design and ribbon features.
It matched her nude Valentino Haute Couture ensemble.
In 2018, Eugenie spoke about the backlash they received to their outfits, telling Cosmopolitan: “There was a horrible article that had been written about Beatrice and she got really upset.
“We were just about to step out and she had a bit of a wobble and cried.
“I was looking after her. And then about an hour later, I had a wobble and started crying and Bea was there for me.”
