Emotional colleagues pay tribute to PC Harper as suspects face more questions
Heartbroken loved ones were seen gathering at the spot where a police officer was brutally killed while investigating a burglary last week
Crowds were pictured paying their respects to PC Andrew Harper, who died from multiple injuries after being dragged by a car on Thursday.
PC Harper, 28, had just got married to his wife Lizzie and was due to go on honeymoon this week.
Tears were streaming down the faces of family, friends and fellow officer as they laid flowers down on the site where he was killed.
Officers have now been given another 24 hours to question 10 male suspects aged between 13 and 30, who were all arrested on suspicion of murder within an hour of the death.
Reading Magistrates Court granted the extension following a previous one of 36 hours.
Four days on from PC Harper’s death, loved ones are still laying flowers at the spot on the A4 Bath Road near the village of Sulhamstead, Berkshire.
One tribute reads: ‘A great cop, a great man, a great friend. There will always be a part of my heart missing now.’
Earlier, several of PC Harper’s colleagues in the Roads Policing Proactive Unit based at Abingdon paid their respects.
PC Harper had attended reports of a break-in at Sulhamstead, between Reading and Newbury.
Forensics officers have been seen investigating the Four Houses Corner Caravan Site, three miles from the scene.
More than £160,000 has been donated to support PC Harper’s bereaved family, with a Just Giving appeal by fellow officers reaching £100,000 in less than 24 hours.
The page set up to support to support the officer’s widow, Lissie, reads: ‘We confront danger on a daily basis. We know there is a risk when we put on the uniform but we do so as we are proud to protect the public.
‘Sadly, on very rare and horrendous occasions, a colleague makes the ultimate sacrifice. We will ensure that heroism is never forgotten.’
