Elon Musk suspends Twitter account tracking the location of his private jet

The Twitter account tracking the movements of Elon Musk’s private Gulfstream jet has been suspended.

The @elonjet account was created by Florida teenager Jack Sweeney and has been posting updates on Musk’s jet since 2020.

The billionaire had previously asked Sweeney to take the account down and even offered $5,000 in payment.

Sweeney refused.

Now it appears Musk has pulled rank as the new boss of Twitter and simply had it removed. Which seems like a U-turn from what he said in November.

The automated bot pulls publicly available Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) data and pushes it to social media.

Sweeney, who considers himself a Musk fan, has created 14 similar accounts tracking other billionaires like Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates.

The teenager has said the experience from building these bots, apart from helping him grow a considerable social media following, has helped him learn how to code and even landed him a part-time job at UberJets as an app developer.

Musk had said in a tweet last year that the matter of people posting information on his jet’s movements was ‘becoming a security issue’.
