Elon Musk 'actively searching' for new Twitter CEO after disastrous poll

Billionaire Elon Musk is actively searching for a new chief executive officer for Twitter, according to sources.

Following a poll on his account, asking whether he should step down, Musk seems to be ready to abandon the top job at Twitter.

Unnamed sources speaking to CNBC in the US have confirmed that Musk, who also runs Tesla and SpaceX, is looking for his successor.

Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

On Sunday, Musk launched a poll on Twitter, asking if he should step down as head of the company, adding that he would abide by the poll results.

The final results on Monday show that 57.5% of the 17,502,391 voters have ‘Yes’ to Musk stepping down.

The win wasn’t by a huge margin as 42.5% voted ‘No’ on the poll.

The question is not finding a CEO, the question is finding a CEO who can keep Twitter alive

Normally a prolific user of the platform, Musk did not tweet in the immediate hours following the poll.

His silence was finally broken just before 11.30 pm on Monday, when he responded to a suggestion from Kim Dotcom, founder of the once wildly popular file-sharing website Megaupload, that the results of the poll were skewed by fake accounts.

Replying to another user’s suggestion that ‘Blue subscribers should be the only ones that can vote in policy related polls’, Musk said: ‘Good point. Twitter will make that change.’

But it looks enough to have convinced Musk he needs to find someone else to handle the changes he wants to make in order to turn Twitter profitable.
