Ellie wakes from coma after buggy crash in Ayia Nappa
A young British woman has woken from a coma after a horror crash in Ayia Napa.
The family of Ellie Horrocks, 22, had issued an urgent GoFundMe fundraiser appeal in a bid to bring her back to the UK to be treated in a specialist neurology hospital. Ellie’s aunty, Sarah, said her niece had moved to Cyprus in May to work in a bar and “experience life”.
However, Ellie, from Bolton, suffered a serious head injury and fractures to her spinal cord and clavicle after the buggy she was driving overturned in a horrific crash. Doctors at the Nicosia Hospital placed Ellie in a medically-induced coma.

Her family are desperate to bring her back to the UK for specialist care – but Ellie’s insurance doesn’t cover the cost of being transported back to Britain. Her family believes the medical repatriation could cost as much as £60,000.
In an update earlier today (Monday, July 3), the family said that Ellie is “progressing” and has woken up from her coma. However, they say she still has “a long road to recovery”.
A statement read: “The family is pleased to inform you that Ellie has now come out of her coma. The doctor is pleased with her progress although she still has a long road of recovery ahead of her.
