The Duchess, 40, will feature on the BBC’s child-oriented channel, CBeebies, on Sunday at 6.50pm. She will read Jill Tomlinson’s ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark’, which she has called an “encouraging tale” for young children.
The story follows Plop, a baby barn owl, who overcomes his fear of the dark with a helping hand from those around him.
In a teaser clip for the reading, Kate introduces the main character and describes how the story is applicable to everyone’s life.
She said: “Wow, what an encouraging tale.
“We can all feel scared sometimes just like our owl friend Plop, but as Mrs Barn Owl said, ‘It’s better to find out about the things that scare us before we make up our mind’.
“And with the help of others, we can often face things that worry us. Now it’s time for bed. Night night, and sleep tight.”
The Duchess of Cambridge’s reading marks Children’s Mental Health Week, and coincides with a milestone for the broadcaster.
The BBC’s Children and Education Director, Patricia Hidalgo, commented: “I couldn’t be more proud to have the duchess read a CBeebies Bedtime Story as we mark the 20th anniversary of our CBeebies and CBBC channels.
“It’s such a special and relevant tale and perfectly represents this years’ Children’s Mental Health week theme.
“I can’t wait to see her deliver her own take on such a classic story and I’m sure our audience can’t either.”
Kate looked casual in jeans and a jumper to record the storytelling snippet, sitting cross-legged in a cosy corner set up to look like a campsite.
The Duchess’s appearance on CBeebies recalled how Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, appeared on Save the Children’s social media to mark her son, Archie’s first birthday.
Footage and an image of the family – before they welcomed baby Lilibet – was shared on the charity’s Instagram page, and showed a relaxed Duchess of Sussex reading to Archie.

The reading was an effort to support Save the Children’s fundraising efforts during the first stage of the coronavirus pandemic.
