Lia, calling from Puglia in Italy, raged to LBC’s Nick Ferrari at the Government’s handling of European travel. She insisted it was “nonsense” to have an amber level for travel during the coronavirus pandemic. She added the Government should only have red and green status if using a traffic light system to make it clear to the public whether it is safe to travel to these countries.
She also questioned what was the point of getting vaccinated if it did not allow people more freedoms.
The caller said: “The last time I was over was December.
“Coming back into Italy was very easy, the procedure that they have at the airport is fantastic.
“Everybody tested for free before they get through passport control.

“My daughter is due to come in June with her two children, they’re four and three years of age and I haven’t seen them since Christmas.
“Yesterday their flight was cancelled again because of the uncertainty.
“I wish they would stop with this amber nonsense and go green or red.
“It is just a nonsense and I am in agreement with you Nick.
Grant Shapps clashes with Nick Ferrari over travel rules
“What is the point of the vaccines, we have been vaccinated and they have been vaccinated, what is the point.”
Mr Ferrari also clashed with Travel Secretary Grant Shapps over the current travel rules.
Nick Ferrari was appalled by the excessive enforcement of quarantine rules where those not isolating on return from an amber list country could face a fine of up to £10,000
“Do you think the British people want to be in a situation where, I’m going to call them the travel Stasi, could knock on your door and levy a fine of £10,000?

“Is that a Conservative policy?”
Mr Shapps defended the Government’s handling of the situation and said: “I don’t want to take issue with you Nick but there’s a bit of difference between breaking the law in a way which could affect other people’s health – coronavirus kills people.
“And what happened in East Germany under communism if you don’t mind me saying.
“Yes, there are big fines and prison sentences if you deliberately choose to ignore your responsibility to protect other people.”
