Driver stopped by police after dragging 50 'swaying' pallets piled 20ft high
A driver was caught chancing it with more than 50 pallets strapped perilously to the back of a trailer.
Kent Police stopped the person in Ramsgate after noticing their load swaying side to side as they drove along.
The 52 pallets, stacked in three columns, were 20ft high – the size of a double-decker bus. They were secured only loosely by just three straps.
Patrolling Kent Police officers issued a traffic offence report to the person for carrying the insecure and dangerous load.
It was made secure and the driver was accompanied to their destination which was only two minutes away.
Officers from the Special Constabulary tweeted: ‘Stopped a driver for transporting over 50 pallets, stacked 26 pallets tall (20ft).
‘It caught our attention as the pallets swayed side to side. [Traffic Offence Report] issued for insecure/dangerous load.’
Tim Lewis, a nearby resident, said: ‘That’s pretty darn stupid. And also unnecessary.
‘If they had a brain cell they could have stacked differently and still taken them all safely at a lower height and more securely.
‘How do these people manage to drive and breathe at the same time?’
Another person said: ‘I’m amazed they got it round the first bend in the road.’
A third commented: ‘The driver must have a few planks short of a load.’
