Dramatic moment shows police pin Nottingham suspect to floor in major incident

Nottingham: Eyewitness shares footage of arrest

A dramatic clip has shown the exact moment police pin a suspect to the ground after the killing of three people in Nottingham city centre after they were apparently mowed down by a van.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, Nottinghamshire Police said.

Footage shot on a mobile phone from a nearby building showed three police officers standing over a handcuffed man on the ground, next a white van which has its door open.

The man who captured the footage told GB News: “We saw a man on the ground with armed police surrounding him.”

Chief Constable Kate Meynell said: “This is an horrific and tragic incident which has claimed the lives of three people.”

She said two people were found dead in one street just after 4 am and a third in a different street, separately from the van incident.

“The three injured people were being treated in a hospital.

“There was no immediate word on their condition.

Police has not yet provided any indication of a possible motive.

Chf Con Meydell said: “We believe these three incidents are all linked and we have a man in custody.

“This investigation is at its early stages and a team of detectives is working to establish exactly what has happened.”

Police cordoned off around 400 yards of the scene at Ilkeston Road with tape, and what appeared to be medical kit was scattered across the road.

Two forensic officers arrived and appeared to dedicate the majority of their time at a bathroom and plumbing business called Willbond.

The forensic officers eventually left the scene on foot with a black crate and large plastic bag.

Mr Sunak thanked the emergency services for their response to the “shocking incident” in Nottingham, adding: “My thoughts are with those injured, and the family and loved ones of those who have lost their lives.”

He added: “I am being kept updated on developments.

“The police must be given the time to undertake their work.”
