Donald Tusk CELEBRATES Brexit chaos – ‘It is a VACCINE against anti-EU propaganda!’

The European Council President lauded Brexit’s effect on Brussels, acting as a “vaccine against anti-EU propaganda”. But the lingering effects of the UK’s divorce look set to continue with talks shelved to focus on a Conservative leadership contest and the hunt for Jean-Claude Juncker’s successor. Speaking after a dinner summit with the EU28’s leaders, Mr Tusk thanked Brexit after a majority of voters backed pro-EU parties in the European elections.

He said: “As Europeans see what Brexit means in practice they also draw conclusions.

“Brexit has been a vaccine against anti-EU propaganda.”

The EU’s most senior official said the bloc’s leaders would next discuss the UK’s divorce at the June European Council summit, where he more “clarity” would need to be delivered.

“We’re all aware what is the state of things in London today, nothing promising,” he said.

“Our role is to wait for new solutions. I want to be as dedicated as possible. I’m not in the mood to appeal to by British colleagues.”

Mrs May discussed the consequences of her resignation announcement with her EU counterparts.

She insisted it would have to be for her successor as prime minister to deliver a compromise that takes Britain out of the EU.

According to an EU diplomat, Mrs May pleaded the a continued close partnership that “protects our joint values”.

As leaders feasted on a melon and fig salad starter, a fillet of pork main and strawberries for dessert, Mrs May avoided outlining a position on the next European Commission president.

Mr Tusk praised Mrs May for her “constructive” approach to the dinner, despite Britain still expected to quit the bloc by October 31.

He said: “I have no doubts the UK will be as constructive when it comes to our European position as before and as decent as before.”
